I Wave The White Flag

I'm usually a pretty upbeat kind of chick. My motto is, "Hey, it could always be worse." It could also be a whole lot better, but that's not my style.

Most of my posts deal with getting through the yucky times of publishing. You know, the constant rejections, the feeling no one will ever, EVER publish your book, and how everyone else on the planet is not only getting book deals, but movie rights as well.

That's it! I'm outta here.

It's enough to make a girl rethink her motto.

*Le sigh*

This week my cheery outlook has been challenged, but that's what makes you stronger, right?

Well, actually no.

I've been mucking around in a gloom of submission for sometime...one book is clocking in at over a year—that's a lot of waiting for nothing to happen.

Also, I've been laid up with a broken foot, hobbling on crutches, and spending most of my time on the couch. It's been great for my Pinterest boards, but it's also allowed me to reflect on my specific goals for writing.

Why do I want to write?

Because I love creating characters and sharing those stories makes them real for others.

Why do I want to be published?

Because more people would read my stories, plus I might get more twitter followers.

What is the best thing about being on submission?

Knowing there is a chance I might get published, therefore more people will read my stories.

What is the worst thing about being on submission?

Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Rejection. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. Rejection.

I want my stories to be read, not stuck in someones in box for another year.

So, I'm taking a break.

I'm turning away from my e-mail.

I'm raising the white flag.

I will be wattpad's best contributor.

I will write more. And I will share more.

No more waiting.

Enjoy the stories...

At least you have an agent to trek on the publishing track for you. Taking breaks are good. Taking breaks with ice cream are better. You'll get published eventually. Happiness (And getting published) is like a butterfly, when you stop trying to catch it, it'll come to you and sit on your shoulder. Obviously, your patient enough to wait, but now it'll probably be best to just let your manuscript float and drift and it'll hoping land on some publishers desk who will be so happy that he's finally find the right one. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your broken foot. :/
But taking a break from the "waiting" is an excellent idea. Then you can write more wonderful characters!
Take care!

Yes, to ice cream! Thanks, Arianna. I love the butterfly image.

Take it easy, but remember, you can still ePublish and get your books out there. You have options.

Hope your foot is better soon and that you get some positive news. Waiting can be so hard.

I'm sorry to hear about your foot - and the waving of the flag. I think everyone who's ever tried to publish, have been there at some point.

I am, also, happy to see you're merely taking a break. It hasn't broken you, killed your spirit and kidnapped your Muse; no, you're simply going to focus on what you really are - which, is a writer.

I think the worst that could happen to a writer would be to lose his/her passion. We write because we love it, we adore creating new worlds and people, we cherish the blank paper obediently waiting for the words to fill it.

Perhaps now, you'll re-discover the love you have for the actual craft - and, when you start relaxing and you enjoy the writing without the constant pressure of submitting - the right publisher will come along. :)

I like your writing and your blog, so I'm happy to see you're still hanging in there! Your moment will come.

I luhhhh-v you. You know why? Even when you say your upbeatedness is dwindling, that you have to rethink your motto and all, you still somehow sound upbeat. It's like... when you read a sad-ish post, you go away feeling sad. If this is supposed to be a sad, resigned post, it failed.

YOU'RE AWESOME. I will read your stories with dedication, I WILL.

That being said, can you read and comment on Wattpad without signing up or whatever? Because I don't like signing up to new sites, I get... easily addicted. And I can't afford to get any more distracted from these two years than I already am :/

All the best :)

Sending out candy tiaras to all the commentors!

I'm glad it resonated with you. I just wanted others to know, that it's normal to get down, and that stepping away for a break is okay.

Thanks for the blog love. Keep writing!
