Make Out Music For Writers

Now that I have your attention...

Today I'm writing a particularly intense scene for THE ASP that involves lips touching. And there's no better way to capture ALL of my character's senses (it's not all about the mouth's, darling) than listening to a schmexy song at the same time.

I LURV this Bryan Adam's song for so many reasons, and I thought it would be nice to share it with you.

If you need a little more inspiration on how to write a simply unforgettable kissing scene, check out this post on that very important topic.

What do you listen to when you're writing?

Lately I don't listen to anything while writing. Maybe it's all the kids around, but I crave silence in general. :-)

But when I used to listen to music while writing, I wanted something tune-outable. So to that end, pretty much anything as long as it was emotional and I didn't need to follow along with it.

Some memorable writing-with-music moments, where the music went away and then the world went away and I looked up after half an hour and a thousand words were down and I only knew time had passed because the iPod had kept track…? Beethoven's 9th symphony, 1st movement. And my iPod Styx selection, to which I wrote the most violent scene I've ever written in my life.

That song is fantastic!

I don't listen to anything when I write (except the noisiness of my husband and daughter). TV and music does nothing but distract me. That said, I do make playlists for my stories, and I listen to them when I cook/drive/run.

Best of luck writing your smoochy scene... Those are my favorite to read and write!

When I did write I would listen to everything in my iTunes library. Lots of Taylor Swift, Dubstep, P!nk and Fall Out Boy. Or I would just create a "Today's Hits" station on Pandora and just let it do it's thing. I remember I won the "Get a Room" award for my kissing scene for one of Cupid's contests, but we both know how I fail at writing so I can't give too much helpful advice on writing a good make-out scene. Good luck!!!

Arianna, the only way you fail at writing is if you stop. *throws marshmallow*

OMG, I totally have a sexy playlist, too. I'm a sucker for old stuff like "Silence" by Sarah McLachlin, "Wild Horses" by the Sundays and "Porcelain" by Moby. Perfect for making out... err, writing about making out! ;)
